Year 6 Curriculum Overview

Useful Information

Here is some useful information about what happens in our classroom.

Reading is extremely important in Year 6. Try to read at home every night for 15-20 minutes. Don't forget to write in your reading record so we can see you are reading at home.

PE lessons are every Friday after lunch. Correct and full PE kits will be needed in school so you can take part in lessons.

We are also very lucky to have weekly Wednesday morning football training sessions with Manchester United Football Coaches, this will continue in the Summer term.

PE and Grounds kits also need to be in school every Friday for Creative Friday sessions. Each half term you will alternate in PE and Grounds lessons so it is important that you bring the right kit in so you can participate in these fun lessons.

Individual instruments need to be in school every Friday so that the children can take part in Creative Friday sessions where the children have an individual instrument lesson and a singing lesson.

Homework will be given out on a Thursday and will be due back in school on the following Tuesday

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask any member of the Year 6 team.

Class Dojo

In our school every class follows the same behaviour policy. Every class has there own Class Dojo.

Class Dojo is an online virtual classroom where every child in the class is represented in the virtual classroom as an alien creature.

Year 6 often have our virtual classroom up on our interactive whiteboard during lessons, and throughout the day the children can collect positive behaviour points.

Positive points can be given to the children for great behaviour, showing manners and kindness, participating in lessons, working hard, being a good friend to others, bringing their homework in on time etc. There are many different reasons why and ways you can earn positive dojo points.

The positive dojo points are used to encourage good behaviour throughout the school and in every classroom.

You can even earn dojo points whilst sat in our daily assemblies.

Let's see how many positive dojo points we can earn this year!

Autumn Term Topic - Britain Since the 1950's

Our first topic in Year 6 this year is 'Britain Since the 1950's'.

We are focusing on how Britain has changed since the 50's and we will be comparing each decade, looking at the differences and similarities.

We have started our new topic by focusing on Britain in the 1950's. Check out the music everyone was dancing to in the 50's, it's a little different to the music we listen to now!

We will be jiving to this song in no time!
