Creative Curriculum

Please see below for a list of topics we have covered this year. We will start each topic with a Big Question and a WOW moment to capture the children’s interests. If you have an expert knowledge or would like to be involved in our learning in any way please let us know, we would love to have you in our classroom.

Our Big Question during the Autumn Term is 'Is everybody's home the same?'

This term we are learning all about houses and homes.  We will be learning about the types of homes we live in, as well as the homes animals may have.  We will be looking at who lives in a castle and reading Jack and the Beanstalk.  We will be learning about The Three Little Pigs and how we can help them build a house to keep them safe from the Big bad Wolf!  We are looking at who lives under the sea and what it would be like to live in a lighthouse!  We will look at houses all over the world and how they are similar and different to what we see in our country.

In Literacy we will be focusing on sharing lots of stories including Sharing a Shell, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Three Little Pigs and The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.  We will be answering lots of questions about our stories and re-enacting them through play.  We will be practising our name writing and start to learn a new phoneme a day in our phonics lessons.  We will be learning how to correctly form Letter sounds and how to hold a pencil correctly.

In Maths we will be singing lots of number songs and actions rhymes.  We will practice our counting accuracy and matching amounts to number 1-10 and then to 20.  We will also be learning to recognise a number of 2d shapes.
